Why San Diego is always a GREAT idea

San Diego, California isn’t the worst place to spend your free time. Beautiful beaches, amazing food, rich history and a tremendous amount of hometown pride… what’s not to adore?

So of course having a great reason to visit (like the ONE conference, for example) only brings more reasons to visit this amazing city.

From February 3 to 5, 2019, the 3rd Annual ONE Conference – the only NeuroNICU conference that is planned by NICU nurses for NICU nurses –  will be hosted at the Kona Kai Resort & Spa in the gorgeous marina of San Diego.

You’ll experience some amazing teaching from expert NeuroNICU nurses from around the globe who will inspire you to take your nursing practice to the next level, while enjoying California’s “brutal” winter, and hopefully get some gorgeous San Diego sun during your time with us.

The Venue

The Kona Kai Resort & Spa is a award winning hotel located on Shelter Island (click here to view the location on a map), giving you access to San Diego’s gorgeous beaches within walking distance of your room.

The resort is home to some of the best views in San Diego right outside the conference room, making the meeting both invigorating and relaxing at the same time.  And the award-winning chef at Kona Kai will keep us stuffed with healthy and filling food.

Alongside fabulous beach access and gorgeous conference rooms, the resort offers amazing amenities from a luxurious pool, a delicious restaurant, and their health promoting spa and fitness center.  (Click here to view the latest Spa Specials at Kona Kai).

The resort (and San Diego in general) is very pet friendly; just in case you can’t get a pet sitter for your fur baby.

Places to See

The resort is conveniently located near some of San Diego’s most iconic sights.

If you love dogs — don’t miss a trip to Dog Beach in San Diego! (Click here to read  all about it)… And they even have an annual “Dog-Surf” CompetitionCheck that out by clicking here.

Just a few minutes up the road, you can explore the USS Midway, the Hotel Del Coronado (one of the oldest and most beautiful hotels in the area), or Sea World.

Other places worth visiting are Balboa Park with its gorgeous gardens and multiple museums, and the historic Gaslamp district, where you can enjoy some of the city’s best restaurants, bars, night clubs and shopping.

Things to Do

We hope that you will take a couple extra days to stay in and around San Diego and relax, rejuvinate, and reflect. The Kona Kai has extra rooms available at our conference price for 3 days before and 3 days after the conference.

If we haven’t already convinced you, here are a few more alluring parts of gorgeous San Diego.

If hiking is a favorite pastime, San Diego is home to some of the most gorgeous trails and views in Southern California. Further south, you can enjoy the rich California history and views the Cabrillo National Monument. Within walking distance is the Old Point Loma Lighthouse, which was refurbished in the 1850’s.

January and February are also the best months to whale watch, and these two locations are prime mainland real estate. You might just get lucky and see some of the grey and blue whales that migrate through San Diego waters. Maybe you’ll get lucky like this group of boaters and see an Orca on their natural migration route.

We are so excited to come back to this beautiful city this year, and hope that you’ll join us!
