Developmental Care Book Club : Month Two
The 2nd month of the developmental care book club was held on May 29th.
We reviewed our first two chapters from the Developmental Care Text Book (NANN, 2009). Chapter 2 and Chapter 7.
Chapter 2 focused on the theoretical framework of developmental care, definitions of developmental care, and the philosophy of NIDCAP (as an implementation strategy of developmental care).
We discussed how to integrate developmental care in to daily rounding and new employee/new grad education. There were some awesome ideas shared around these topics.
The second chapter we discussed, was Chapter 7 (Individualized Care: Actions for Individual Staff Members). We talked about the pros-and-cons of implementing developmental care as an individual even if your whole unit has not yet bought in to the concept; especially about how this can create a culture of inconsistency which can cause frustrations to families and fear in infants.
